Our Director, Catherine Bates qualified as a Teacher in 1998 with a BA Ed (Hons) with PE for 3-8 year olds from Goldsmiths University. Having taught in a range of schools, in 2006, she made the move away from full time education in order to develop her career as a tutor and lecturer. The ‘love’ of education has never gone away and Catherine still teaches in schools on a part time basis.
As a qualified Teacher and BG Teacher’s Award Tutor, Catherine has worked in many schools and universities, delivering INSET ranging from the 2-day Teacher’s Award Course to specific customised courses, tailored to the individual educational establishment. In 2012, Catherine Bates won the British Gymnastics “Services to Education” Award.
The education element of Catleaps is vital to our success. Catherine has a great understanding of the practicalities of teaching gymnastics in the modern curriculum to children of all ages and abilities. She has worked in many schools and universities, delivering INSET ranging from the 2-day Teacher’s Award Course to specific customised courses, tailored to the individual educational establishment.
Catleaps works in partnership with local schools and universities to enhance their gymnastics provision.
I have been fortunate enough to attend two courses where Catherine has been the tutor for myself and my colleague Lesley. Catherine is an inspiration and would recommend anyone who wants to become a gym coach to attend her courses. Since completing the courses I have worked voluntarily within our local school and over the last 4 years we have medalled first and second at the county finals and competed at Nationals. Last year our boys under 11’s took the gold at Nationals and we are hoping for a possible repeat performance again this year. Myself and Lesley can only thank Catherine for her help and continued support, looking forward to the next course.
